The level of bespoke luxury begins right from the moment we stepped foot into the Bintan Island after a 45mins ride from Tanah Merah Ferry terminal. Soaking in a very last minute vacay vibe, we got whisked onto a luxurious black shuttle, with a bag of the resort’s handmade cookies and some water bottles placed in our hands, we were on another 45 mins ride to our abode for the next 3 days

In a blink of an eye, our luggage was already loaded into the bus, and the bus departs in a jiffy.

The ride was bumpy on the stone roads but our eyes had a great feast on the lush greenery amidst the rural side of the island. It didn’t take long after a quick power nap for the kids, our bus halted at a beautiful entrance of the resort. We got off and was promptly guided towards the business conference room perched behind the lobby’s concierge and was once again greeted with more dainty desserts, hot towels, and chilled drinks.

And here, begins our amazing staycation at one of the newest family-friendly resort in Bintan – THE RESIDENCE BINTAN.

THE RESIDENCE BINTAN

With a total of 127 terraces and villas, The Residence Bintan is a restorative indulgence beckon. We could retreat to the idyllic space and closeness of nature as it combines the rural charm of a traditional Asian village that boasts a luxurious modern twist.  We were most impressed by their staff absolute dedication to making sure the kids were well taken care of. From the kids club, parent-child pancake making workshops, family yoga, and poolside party, there wasn’t a lack of physical fun time for us while we took our breather from the hustle of city life.

If you are looking for babysitting service, have no worry that no one can do that job, just hop by the concierge, you will get your pair of eyes to watch over your little tots while you are at the spa, excursions or even when you need your couple time.

BEACHFRONT (VILLAS)

To fit our family of 4 comfortably, we were arranged to stay in the one bedroom beachfront villa. Step out we got the soft sandy beaches right underneath our feet, one step back, we had a private pool all to ourselves. It was the ultimate fusion of natural surroundings and luxurious sense of panoramic views.

The first thing my husband did was to lounge outdoors on the private deck and peaceful atmosphere. It wasn’t a hot day but the little gesture of turning on our room’s air conditioner way before we check in just to lower the temperature of the entire room. Because of this what happened next took us by surprised when we saw our boys plunging straight into the white sheets and had a quick nap from the early morning traveling. I could seriously count all the perfect spots to indulge ourselves in complete relaxation.

The well-appointed villa features a king-size bed, sofa bed, daybed, and a spacious bathroom with separate bathtub and shower. Within the resort, you can find about 16 villas similar to what we had. Our villa comes with the usual room amenities such as hair dryers, bath amenities, LCD television, and tea & coffee making station. All these combined with bathroom, slippers and a beach bag, and there, by the door, we even found umbrellas for our use too.

Outside, you can easily find bicycles packed outside every villa as well.

Kids are treated liked a little VIP with these treats (amenities) prepared for them the moment we stepped into the room –coloring books, crayons, drinks, and biscuits. For media, we were so touched that we got additional amenities for this 3 days  – mosquitoes repellent, aloe vera gVichyichy face mist, and sunblock lotions!

VISTA (TERRACES)

Located in a quieter part of the resort, nearer to the garden view, we had a chance to do a late check out at one of the 80 beautiful double-story residences Vista Terraces and Garden Terraces. What set them apart from the villas is that they offer a similar peaceful retreat and it comes with a choice of interconnected units for larger families.

Each of the terraces features luxuriously appointed interiors furnished with a king-size bed and sofa bed, a living room, and a spacious bathroom with a separate bathtub and shower. In total there are 35 Kings sized and 5 Twin sized bedrooms to chose from. You will get a large private deck furnished with sun beds perfect for enjoying the day or even for in-room dining at any time of the day.

This is us ordering a spread of in-room dining meals before we checked out. Every order would accompany by a basket of warm buns, The kids enjoyed their fries, creamy lobster bisque, satay nasi lemak, soft shell crab spaghetti, to be completed with some really decent desserts we ever had – creme brulee with fruits!

For those who prefer not to climb up and down every time you need to head out with prams or strollers why not just opt for one of the four two-bedroom Beachfront villas with direct access to the beach and private pools.  This will save the daddies from all the lifting and carrying.

ILA SPA

Back by the renowned British spa brand ila, we managed to give ourselves a treat with their signature massages. We started with the iconic, you can only get this in Bintan, the way of feet cleansing with salt and floral wash. Together with the peaceful ambiance and airy open views, I sank into a deep sleep when my tight knots were eased out.  With eight private couple treatment rooms equipped with bathtubs, a serene reflexology room, and rooms dedicated to beauty rituals our fatigue and stress merely disappear with every rubdown.

Catering to the little hands and feet, Spa by ila offers foot massages for children for 30 or 60 minutes upon requests.

FAMILY FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES

PANCAKE MAKING (PARENT-CHILD WORKSHOP)

We had a parent-child cooking session on the second day, though it was raining cats and dogs the downpour didn’t dampen our mood for some hot pancakes! In shapes of stars, toast, and a galore of garnish for them to decorate with! Often, some mornings my husband would wake up early and make some pancakes for the kids, this time the boys can finally get their hands on creating one!

Proud faces we got there, the boys made not just pancakes but memories to remember! Even till now Noah still remembers this memorable experience with his daddy.

POOL AND PIZZA

It was sun, pool, and pizza for us during this media stay, and we got both of the boys changed into their swimsuits on day 2. Other than pizza, we had chips, nuggets and delicious chocolate smoothies to cool the heat though it wasn’t too hot as it rained earlier. The rain came and was gone fast.  There were two parts of the pool, in addition to the Infinity pool situated along the beachfront, the property also has a perfectly sized pool suited for little ones to swim and splash around in.

We just parked ourselves by the beach lounges and tucked into the yummy pizzas fresh from the ovens, and it was delicious!

FAMILY YOGA

Had to wake up early for this while the weather was gloomy with the rain, but we managed to join in the Family Yoga to bond together with the rest of the media and their families! We definitely recommend every family on vacation to try this out. It was fun exploring the different parts of our body stretching out and learning various motor skills for better growth development.

Everyone’s favorite staff from The Residence Bintan, who always make sure the kids are entertained!

BOAT RIDE AT THE MANGROVES

I, personally would have never tried to go on a boat ride day trip to the rustic Chinese village of Senggerang located on the southwestern coast of Bintan to gain captivating insights of local fishermen AS WELL as embark on a Mangrove Tour along the Sebung River, available as a day or night tour to witness the magical sight of fireflies lighting up the river bank.

We heard from the tour guide that these people have lived all their life on the sea, some even gave birth in their houses instead of going to hospital. Something our modern mummies will not even dare to do so – me lor!

Can you spot a monkey mama with her babies behind her back? You will get to see mud crabs as well! Never ever in my life will we arranged such a trip as all that’s in my mind was – what if the boat sink? Can anyone save my kids? Will there be piranhas and the answers are yes!

But thanks to this media stay, we managed to try this out as a family and learned many insights to a fishing village. Even the monkeys came out for a spin!

KIDS CLUB

Located nearer to the main lobby, KAKATU Kids Club comes with a list of activities to keep the kids busy throughout the day!  Many of which require to participate according to timings that include garden and beach exploration, cooking classes, yoga sessions, treasure hunts and even local dance lessons.

We joined in for some movies, crafts and outdoor play time on our trip, and our 1 year old enjoyed his time throwing the basketball into the kid-size hoop!

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

A plethora of outdoor activities await for families to give it every adrenline pumping activities a try – whether you prefer to be out at the sea or having both feet on land you will be promised a trip full of adventures and fun.

Here are some of the activities you can do on water and land at The Residence Bintan.

THE DINING ROOM

Offering a WORLD OF FLAVORS no doubt The Dining Room lives up to its name. We had a remarkable and enjoyment time feasting at this all-day dining restaurant. It offers Western specialties and modern Asian inspirations, brimming with flavors to please all palates, enjoyed within a casually relaxed environment.

The menu seen below: Lobster soup, Tomato soup, kai lan, chicken satay, nasi lemak, sweet potato chip, beer burger etc.

Usually when we are out on trips liked this we always worry there won’t be food available for the little ones. The Dining room had kids menu available thru the day with menu liked Little Nemo (fillet with chips), Little Mermaid (fish with noodle soup) and a range of pasta choices for them to select from!

RICA RICA

On our first dinner night, we got to savory RICA RICA’s incredible flavors of authentic Indonesian cuisine spiced up with a modern twist. This is where we made our pancake as well.
